What is therapy?

Reaching out for therapy can feel like a big step. You may be wondering what therapy actually is, whether it’s “for you”, or even where to begin.

Therapy is a judgment-free space where you can talk openly about what's going on for you. No filtering, no performing, no having to hold it together.

You might be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, disconnected, emotionally exhausted, or struggling with something difficult in your relationships or past. Sometimes there is a clear reason for seeking support, and sometimes there isn’t. You may simply know that something doesn’t feel quite right.

Therapy offers a space to pause, reflect and make sense of what you are experiencing, at a pace that feels right for you

What happens in therapy?

There is no “right” way to come to therapy.

You might arrive with a clear sense of what you want to work on. Or you might simply know that something doesn't feel quite right, without being able to name it yet. Both are completely fine. You don't need to have it figured out before you come. Many people worry they won’t know where to start, that’s completely okay.

Some sessions may involve talking through what’s happening in your life right now. Others may explore deeper patterns, emotions, relationships or experiences that continue to affect you. Therapy can help you better understand yourself, process difficult experiences, build emotional resilience, and create meaningful change.

Most importantly, therapy is a collaborative process. We work together to understand what you need and what may help.

My approach

My work is grounded in counselling, which means creating a supportive, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can feel heard, understood and safe enough to explore what matters to you.

My approach is shaped around you rather than a fixed model. Where helpful, I also draw on EMDR, EFT, and hypnotherapy as additional tools.

You can read more about how I work and my training on my About page.

Do you need therapy?

You do not need to be in crisis to come to therapy.

People seek therapy for many reasons, including:

Anxiety, stress, or a constant sense of overwhelm

  • Anxiety, stress, or a constant sense of overwhelm

  • Low mood, exhaustion, or feeling stuck

  • Difficult relationships or painful patterns that keep repeating

  • Loss, grief, or big life changes

  • Low self-esteem or a harsh inner critic

  • Trauma, or experiences that still feel unresolved

  • Feeling disconnected — from yourself, from others, or from your life

  • Simply wanting to understand yourself a little better

Sometimes there is no single explanation beyond a feeling that things could be different. That is enough of a reason.

Finding the right therapist

Therapy is a personal process, and the relationship between you and your therapist matters.

It’s important that you feel comfortable enough to be yourself and that working together feels like a good fit. You don't have to feel that immediately — it can take a few sessions to find your footing, and that's completely normal. But the fit needs to be there.

That's why I offer a free initial call before we begin. It's a chance to ask questions, get a sense of how I work, and see whether it feels right. No pressure, no commitment — just a conversation

Let’s talk

If you're ready to take that first step — or just want to ask a question — I'd love to hear from you.
